Nigerian producer Ade Bantu says that musicians need to stop looking at the west for validation

We, as Africans need to rate our artists considerably more. We need to rate ourselves because if we step back and take a look at proceedings, Africa is running the music game at the moment.

These sentiments were also echoed by Nigerian producer, Ade Bantu, who believes that Africans need to stop look at the west for validation if we want to make it to the top of the music industry.

He was speaking specifically about Nigerian music and added that the biggest market for Nigerian music is not the States, but rather Africa. If you crunch the numbers, you’ll see he has a point: Africa, as a continent, has the second highest population in the world and the majority of those people would be able to relate to Nigerian music and culture.

A quote from a local publication says:

“Nigerian musicians do not need to win a Grammy or an Oscar, or collaborate with a foreign artiste to prove their relevance. While also not taking anything away from those who have accomplished such milestones, he stressed that the biggest market for a Nigerian artiste is in Africa.”
